YOGA ALLIANCE PUBLISHED INFORMATION
In preparation for your yoga class....
- Beginning students and students with injuries will most benefit from Basics, or All Levels Hatha Yoga. Beginning students with a higher level of fitness and athletes will enjoy PowerFlow Vinyasa
- Practice on an empty yet not hungry stomach - for an optimal experience, eat your last full meal 2-3 hours before, if you must eat before to prevent hunger, eat light.
- Bring your own mat if possible. Yoga mats are available to rent for $1.
- Come with an open yet discerning mind. Be open to the teacher's experienced guidance but test what you are taught to make it true for you within your own body.
- Be mindful in your practice. Yoga's ultimate goal is to instill deep body awareness and acceptance, not to push oneself into strange, contorted positions.
- Know that you are supported at whatever level you are at, your teacher and the other students are here to help you progress. It's not about perfection, it's about process and full expression of you. Yoga is a non-competitive activity but inspires each individual to be her best.
- Please let your teacher know if you have an injury or if something hurts during a posture. There are modifications to every pose and not every person can or should do every pose.
- Dress in clothing that allows you to move and be comfortable as well as allows the teacher to see alignment, ei: somewhat more form fitting clothing.
- The intent of yoga is that you feel better about yourself and better in general when you leave, if this is not happening, please let your teacher know!
- One can practice yoga for a whole lifetime! Be patient with yourself and your progress. I've been practicing for 10 years, and I am still learning new things.
